Through generations God has been in the habit of announcing Himself to the world through exploits. In every generation right from Noah, He is always having a person or people through which He makes Himself undoubtedly known as The GOD ALMIGHTY, through exploits. The list is endless (Heb. 11:32-34).
THE NATION ISRAEL
The nation Israel is a metaphor or a type of the church. They were God’s show room. Right from Goshen to the Promised Land, they manifested the power of God though great exploits that the world NEVER experienced. The neighboring nations were afraid and trembled, they were seized with terror (Josh. 9; 24, 2:9 -11). Even today, Israel is the centre of attraction of the entire world, when it sneezes, the world catches cold!!!!
JESUS AND THE APOSTLES
Jesus was the express image of the Father. All that we read in the Old Testament were but shadows of the real. They carried only a part of God, but Jesus was God in Full. His exploits cannot be completely enumerated. When He left, He promised the disciples the SAME power under and with which He operated – The Holy Spirit. When He (the Holy Spirit) came in Acts 2, the disciples were empowered for great exploits (Acts 1; 8, 2; 43, 5; 12, 17; 6).
Today, the Church is the showroom of God. (Eph 3:10)
As Christians, we are CHOSEN FOR EXPLOITS.
Let us consider the following:
- We are chosen, we did not choose, we were CHOSEN by Him. ( John 15:16 )
- We were chosen in a general sense firstly because we are born again and are members of His church.
- Apart from the general choice, we are also chosen for particular exploits. We are not supposed to be lost in the crowd or flow with the multitude.
- Nothing we have or are qualifies us for these exploits. Nothing but grace qualifies us for these exploits.
- Our area for chosen exploits may not necessarily be our area of core competence, natural ability, talent, gifting, training or strength. In order to show himself strong in our weakness (1Cor. 1:29, 2Cor. 12:9, 3:5), God sometimes calls us into hitherto unknown territories outside our comfort zones to display His power.
TO DO EXPLOITS, WE NEED:
- FOCUS: (Phil. 3:13, Matt.6: 22 – 23)
We must remain focused, our eyes must be single, and we must sit on our jobs. Paul said, ‘This one thing I do’, we are not called to be all things to all people. Only God is the Almighty. We must be known for one thing. We should locate what God has called us to solve, pursue it will all diligence and excel in it!
- BOLDNESS AND COURAGE
The righteous are as bold as a Lion. Without courage, we cannot confront our Goliath. Or enter our Canaan. God told Joshua, ‘Be of good courage’. (Joshua 1: 6 – 7, Deut. 31: 7, Prov. 28:11).
- WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE (Dan.11;32)
Any good house is built by wisdom (Prov. 24: 3 -6). We must seek wisdom and knowledge in our various fields. Being a Christian doesn’t mean we must be earthly useless. For exploits, we must seek wisdom and knowledge. Jesus Himself is the wisdom of God, He lives in us, we are NOT the scum of the world, we are the solution the world is waiting for, we should seek all forms of scriptural, legitimate, healthy and relevant knowledge.
The world does not respect paper qualification, it respects solutions. Solution is a function or product of power. In Act 2:8, they became witnesses, not just by word of mouth but by manifestation - exploits. (Acts 2: 43, 5: 12).
Humility is knowing and accepting the fact that all that we have, are and will ever be, is by His Grace. Therefore, we ascribe all the glory to Him. The moment we ever think, feel, and behave as if we qualify to do or be what we have or are, pride has set in. ‘’That No flesh should glory in His presence! (1 Cor. 1: 29 )
- GODLY RELATIONSHIP
Evil communication corrupts good manners. Birds of a feather flock together. Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are (Prov. 13:20). We must surround ourselves with people who constantly encourage us, who fire us to greater heights, who bring out the best in us, who challenge us to be better day by day. Who believe in us. We must run away from toxic people who:
- Demean and belittle us
- Abuse and rubbish us
- Discourage us by words or action
- Quench the fire of godly pursuits
- Encourage us to compromise and sin
- Make us see nothing good in us
- Make our failure appear final
- Magnify our errors and diminish our accomplishments
- GODLY MENTORS
Who is a Mentor? Someone we look up to; who guides us and helps in our chosen field knowingly and unknowingly. A person on whose shoulder we see the future. He disciplines, teaches, chastens, counsels. He offers us platforms and exposures which we hitherto wouldn’t have had. We must CHOOSE to obey, respect, honour, cherish, preserve and pray for him (Prov. 1: 14, 15:22, 20:18).
- BE DRUNK WITH THE SPIRIT OF COMMISSION
Every ministry has its own unique characteristics and peculiar way of administration. This is what we call doctrines. Doctrines find their sources in:
- The Bible
- Personal Divine Encounters of the founding fathers and
- Tradition or experience
- Convictions of the founding fathers
- The goals, dreams and vision of the founding fathers
I am very proud to say that the Apostolic doctrines, having been tested and proven over time are what stands us out in the world. Doctrines guided Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. A Church without doctrines:
Is like a market without walls.
Has no identity.
Has no binding principles.
Will fizzle out in no time.
It is a spirit we need to imbibe and be drunk with. A lot of times, we youths see it as a hindrance to our growth. It isn’t, it is a plus.
Through faith, the fathers of yore did exploits. Faith is the spiritual currency with which we trade in the spiritual market. Without it, we cannot please God, with it; we, like the elders can obtain a good report. (Heb. 11)
The major key to being an instrument for exploits is obedience (Deut 28:1, Josh 1:8). We cannot rationalize, reason out or put His word under any kind of scientific logic, it won’t work. Obedience, total absolute complete and unquestioned is our gateway to becoming tools for exploits.
- THE WORD OF GOD
All things were created by the word (even the devil). Everything bows to the Word of God. In order to be world shakers and movers; we must know the Word of God and make it first place in our lives. That’s when and only when our success is guaranteed. That is when we can do exploits for Him. We cannot represent the God we do not know. We know Him in His word. We are as powerful as the REVEALED Word of God in our hearts (Josh 1:8 -9).
- GODLY CHARACTER
Our gifts, talents and natural or even God given abilities can take us to the top: it takes character for us to be retained and maintained at the top. Character is who we are when no one is watching. When we know there might not be any consequence for our actions or inactions, what we do then is a function of our character. There is a very high price to pay for low living.
- Rueben lost his inheritance as first born (Gen. 49: 3-4).
- Samson lost his power, became a laughing stock and died untimely (Judges 16:17-31).
- David incurred an everlasting curse on his generation (2Sam. 12: 9-12).
- Gehazi earned leprosy for his unborn generations (2 kings 5: 25-27).
- Judas Iscariot lost his place among the 12 Apostles (Acts 1: 16-20).
- Job maintained his integrity (Job 2:9-10)
- Joseph did not sin with his master’s wife though no one was watching (Gen. 39: 7-9).
- Daniel and his friends will not eat idol contaminated food and refused to bow down before the king’s graven image.
- EXCELLENCE (Phil. 3:11)
Seek to excel. Average is the enemy of excellence. The best way to break our records is to sit on it. Run away from mediocrity, sycophancy and keep striving. There must be no end to learning, the day we stop learning we start dying. Even Paul kept on keeping on. Excellence is essentially a heart issue; it’s an attitude that culminates into action. It is taking the limits off God. We must be the best in all our endeavours.
In the world, we make discoveries, in prayer we are discovered. When we read, we study about God, in prayer we are face to face with God. If you don’t pray, you will only be able to explain God but not manifest (make exploits for) God, because the God you know is the God you can show. Prayer makes you become like God (Moses). In prayer, we get changed in be in charge.
Prayer must be our way of life, we do it unceasingly (1 Thess. 5; 17).
Jesus was addicted to prayers, no wonders His exploits still remain unmatched (Luke 5;16, 9;29, 22;32, 22;44).
Moses prayed (Numbers 11;2, 21;7, Deut.9;20, 9;26,)
Elijah was mighty in prayers (James 5; 17 – 18)
Daniel was tenacious in prayers (Dan. 6; 10, 9; 4)
The Apostles prayed (Acts 4;31, 6; 6, 13;3, 14;23)
- PAYING THE PRICE
The world is like a market. Everything has a price. Salvation is free because Jesus paid for it. No one sleeps in his house for 9 years and expects Oxford University to deliver Ph. D to his house. To get it, you must work, toil and strive. To do exploits, we must pay individual prices, carry our personal crosses and endure our personal pains. No price, No prize, No cross, No crown, No pain, No gain. We must endure our fires in order to become pure gold.
We the youths are completely inexcusable. We must go into the world and set the pace, trail the blaze and shine the light. The time has come for us to manifest (Rom. 8; 19). Christianity is no excuse for failure; it is THE reason FOR OUR EXPLOITS.
WE HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FOR EXPLOITS!
WE SHALL NOT FAIL OUR CHURCH!!
WE SHALL NOT FAIL OUR GENERATION!!!
AND WE SHALL NOT FAIL OUR GOD IN JESUS NAME!!!!
PASTOR JOSEPH EKWERE
