I DID IT, BUT YOU ACTUALLY DID IT, LORD!

Judges 15:15-16 (KJV)
15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith. 16 And Samson said,With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.

Samson slew a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of an ass and he said to himself,  with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men, "  it actually sounded like a testimony but it was centred around him. He literarily took the credit for the slaughter; I did it " then he threw away the jaw bone and went his way :

Judges 15:17-20 (KJV)
17 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramathlehi.

The floodgate

Shortly Afterwards, he became very thirsty and  famished and was dying of thirsty then he cried out to the Lord :

Verse 18...And he was sore athirst, and called on the Lord, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? 19 But God clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof Enhakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day. 20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.

I found this story very interesting and that is why I am bringing it to us ; at first, he slew a  thousand Philistines with a decayed jaw bone of an ass and said to himself "with a jawbone of an ass, I killed a thousand "but after he became very thirsty and was greatly famished, he cried lord you did it, You gave me this deliverance !

"Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?

As long as there were exploits and no crisis, he took the credit for what was done but when he ran into a trouble greater than him, he quickly said Lord, you gave me the deliverance! He remembered the boss, he acknowledged the true source!

Why must we wait until we hit a low ebb, get into trouble or be arrested before we give him his place and the glory he deserves for the exploits in our lives?

Despite boasting in himself for killing a thousand, God was gracious enough to rescue him from dying of thirst when he returned the glory back to him; I believed God created a situation when he needed water and had to look up to God for help!

God knows how to deal with the proud!
After He had a visitation from God, he went down to Gaza :

Judges 16:1 (KJV)

1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

From Gaza, he went to the valley of sorek where he eventually met his Waterloo in Delilah.

Pride goeth before a fall!

King Nebuchadnezzar did not get away unpunished when he made a similar statement one day when he woke up in his palace :

Daniel 4:28-32 (KJV)
28 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. 30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? 31 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. 32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

It took him seven years in the bush like an animal to realize his error and returned the glory for the exploits back to God!

When Peter came down from the upper room, he saw a cripple  by the gate of the beautiful temple who needed help and said these words to him:

Acts 3:6 (KJV)
6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Peter said "such as I have" but this was a statement in humility, there was no pride attached to it. Whatever we have, we must never forget the source :

2 Corinthians 4:7 (KJV)
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

When Pharaoh met Joseph who was brought out of the prison with a reputation  for a spot on interpretation of dreams, see what the king said to him :
Genesis 41:15-16 (KJV)
15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it. 16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

Although Joseph had the gift of the interpretation of dreams, he refused to take the credit for it! That was why the gift was activated right there instantly and it ended up in his promotion!
It wasn't the gift that promoted him, it was the humility  that he wrapped around the gift in his life that promoted him !  There are many people that are gifted in the church of Jesus Christ than Joseph ten times but pride is limiting their gifts and hindering their promotion; before God will promote you and your gift, he wants you to fully and consciously acknowledge him as the source.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (KJV)
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Although power is at work in us but unto him be the glory.

Shalom.
