The Gospel of Matthew begins like this “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.” (Verse 1) Think of this: "Abraham fathered Isaac."

There is not much more to be said about Isaac. His great distinction is simply who fathered him, and Isaac deserves no medals for that. Abraham might have expected far more from Isaac, because had God said: "In your seed shall all nations be blessed," but Abraham's hopes were in no way realized in him.

Then Matthew dramatically writes across Abraham's disappointment one fantastic statement: "JESUS CHRIST the Son of Abraham". Isaac, Abraham’s disappointment, was overwritten with the name of JESUS. JESUS IS THE SON!
Similarly, David picked Solomon, the best of a poor bunch of murderous sons, for his successor. David saw too much of himself in them all. He wept over Absalom, "My son, my son." But Matthew crossed out Solomon, replacing him with "JESUS CHRIST the Son of David", our Messiah and Savior.
Jesus was the son of a race that could not father Him. The Heavenly Father alone begat His Only Begotten Son. What a pedigree for Christ! All the cross-hatching with badness, all the contamination, all the disappointments of the fathers with their sons, and then joy! "Unto us a child is born unto us a son is given". With Jesus, humanity had one Son who restored its dashed hopes and brought full salvation. Disappointments? Jesus is here right now to cross them all out and over-write them in your life with HIS own name. “Peace, be still!”
