Ruth 2:11-12 (KJV)
11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore. 12 The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
When Ruth a Moabitess, came to Israel with her mother-in-law Naomi, she served her mother- in law with all her heart and it was widely reported in the land.
Her servitude was deliberate. history was not on the side of Moab ;her country had a bad reputation in Israel. when the children of Israel left Egypt and went through the wilderness on their way to the promised land, the children of Moab showed them no kindness, they refused to meet isreal who was needy with bread and water when they saw them pass through the desert and because of their lack of hospitality ,God placed a curse on the Ammonites and the Moabites for ten generations:
Deuteronomy 23:3-4 (KJV)
3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the Lord for ever: 4 Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.
Lack of hospitality can trigger a curse but When Ruth followed her mother-in-law Naomi to Bethlehem of Judea, she said in herself; my great grandfathers brought a curse on the nation for their apathy and indifference towards Israel when they passed through the wilderness, they offered them no bread to eat or water to drink but I have come to the land to serve! I have come to do what my ancestors didn’t do.
When she served Naomi her mother in law wholeheartedly, she reversed a generational curse with her kindness and hospitality.
It was lack of hospitality that brought a generational curse upon her nation but it was her act of servitude that reversed the curse of a whole nation!
May you serve aright. May your service in the house of God right the wrongs of your family and generation.
Wherever you find yourself serving, do it with all your might. It may be that is what is required to shift things on your behalf and that of your generation .
