1 Corinthians 2:1-4 (KJV)
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
When Paul was getting ready to bring the testimony of God ( the gospel ) to Corinth, he deliberately chose a particular approach.
IN THE DEMONSTRATION OF THE SPIRIT AND POWER!
Why this approach? See the next verse …
1 Corinthians 2:5 (KJV)
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
it wasn’t out of the sheer display of the spectacular, it wasn’t just to show off in Corinth to the people like ‘I am anointed, see what I have got’ it wasn’t something propped up by the flesh, he chose to demonstrate God’s power strategically so that the FAITH of the people may not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Kingdom power has a purpose behind it, The purpose of demonstrating kingdom power is so that the faith of men wouldn’t rest in the wisdom of men. This is why I encourage every preacher to go beyond the enticing words of man’s wisdom today into an arena where the demonstration of the Spirit and the power of God could accompany their speech and preaching.
Why did Jesus walk on water before his disciples? Why did he multiply loaves of bread? Why did he calmed the sea and did great and uncountable miracles? It wasn’t for his sake, it was for his disciples’ sake :
John 11:14-15 (KJV)
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless, let us go unto him.
He did those miracles so that the faith of those men wouldn’t rest in the wisdom of words only. When they came out of his three and half years discipleship school, they had this testimony :
1 John 1:1 (KJV)
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
Their faith rested not on the wisdom of men but in the power of God. My heart bleeds seeing how the men of this age brandishing eloquence and oratory prowess had caused the faith of the church unknown to them to rest in the wisdom of men.
The kingdom is not about the forest of words:
1 Corinthians 4:20 (KJV)
20 For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
When you don’t walk in this arena but carry on with the enticing words of man’s wisdom only, you will rest the faith of the people in the wisdom of men! We are where we are today because we have rested our faith in the wisdom of men! The church is where it is in this pandemic today because we have rested our faith on the wisdom of men week in week out without stepping up into the arena of tangible demonstration of the Spirit and the power of God. The church is suffering the consequences of resting its faith in the wisdom of men and the world is helpless because the church that should help her had rested its faith in the wisdom of men and not the power of God.
When Jesus came 2000 years ago, the law had quarantined lepers and women with the issue of blood, these were isolated from the populace as unclean but they sought for their healing and cleansing through him!
Virtues left his clothes, hands and body for their healing, he never caught their leprosy or got infected by anyone who had a contagious disease. He didn’t wear a mask or carry sanitizers around in the case of getting infected by countless thousands he prayed for; We are his body on earth today, the extension of his hands and feet, the world should be looking in our direction for recovery and healing and not up to World health organisation
Acts 3:4 (KJV)
4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. The apostles of the early church told their world to look at them for their healing but now, Why are they not looking in our direction? Because We have rested our faith in the wisdom of men in the church for years and not on the power of God.
