Hebrews 12:1-3 (KJV)
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us #run with patience the #race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
There is a race that is set before us. There are times biblical terminology defines Christianity as a walk but there are verses that also talks about we running a race. It is both a walk and a race as well.
It is established that We are in a race but have you ever thought of of having a race plan in this race? Has this necessity ever occurred to you? Beloved, You must have a race plan for this race! That is what this article is all about .
If you have a race plan for your life, you don’t need to run at the same speed throughout the race ;there are times you hold back to retain the energy for what is more probably the most difficult phase of the race.
Isaiah 40:29-31 (KJV)
29 He giveth power to the faint;
and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,and the young men shall utterly fall:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.
We live in time these verses of the scripture is becoming a reality. The bible says, youths shall faint and young men shall utterly fall.
Fainting and growing weary is not an attachment to old people ;young men can faint. young men whom the bible says their glory is their strength do faint .
Don’t be surprise this hour when you see young men growing weary ,It happens to people of all age groups .we live in a fallen world but the bible says ….’They that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength .Not only will they come out of waiting on the Lord bubbling and bursting with energy and vitality ,there is something more ;They will know when they are meant to fly, they know when they are meant to run ,and they will know when they are meant to walk !
In this race beloveth, you must know when you are to fly, you must know when you are to run and you must know when you are to walk . These are different expressions of speed , these are different momentum; Flying, running and walking .
Some of us will say, ‘well I have reached a point and a time in my life I cant fly anymore ,I can’t run anymore, but no matter how old or young you are , there will be time when the king’s assignment will demand haste and you will definitely need to run! there will be times the king’s assignment will demand flying and you will need to fly and not run , there will be times when neither flying and running is required and you just need to walk patiently with your lord .
Are you getting something here ?
Don’t run when you are meant to fly, Don’t fly when you should be running and don’t fly or run when you are supposed to be walking !!!
Competition is very dangerous to your race because you don’t know the altitude or gear people are in ,some may be in their flight season and you May be in your walk season and you ignorantly because of competitive jealousy abandoned your patient walk in God to compete with someone in their flight !
Let us look at Hebrew 12 once again .
“1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.-” Heb 12-1:3.
Three things summaries Hebrew chapter 12.
The Progress, ( the race) the problem, ( weights ) and the incentive ( the Jesus example )
The writer of this book admonished us by saying let us run the Race that is set before us with patience.
Put this in your spirit “The race you should run is the one set before you and not the one set before someone else, but the one peculiarly set before you.
competition is simply defined as running somebody else ‘s race and by doing such, you stand the risk of being disqualified at the end .
you will end up losing your reward because you didn’t run what is specifically set before you ;there is no crown in heaven for cheap copycats.
Furthermore, This race had been paced by God and there is an ingredient with which to run this race with, it is called patience; that is the speed which you are required to travel, that is the speed that will ensure that there is no accident. Run your race with Patience not hurriedly. Don’t attempt what you are supposed to do in 20 years in 2 years in the ministry.
The problem here is weight.
We are admonished to lay aside every weights and sin is not the only weight to be laid aside; discouragement is a weight to be laid aside, worrying is a weight to be laid aside,unforgiveness is a weight to be laid aside, malice, quarrel, etc are dead weights to be laid aside so you can run with a free shoulder . When your shoulder is free of weights, your momentum in this race will be smooth.
Is there any weight upon your shoulder ? Please look inward and lay it aside now.
The incentives we have here in Hebrews 12 is Jesus.
The bible says … Looking unto Jesus. He didn’t say look away from Jesus ,but looking ( continuously ) unto Jesus. He didn’t say look on to someone else but unto Jesus. That is the only person you must compete within in your race.
Looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endure the cross…
Jesus endured the cross. he didn’t enjoy it, he endured it. but while he was on it, he had a joy set before him.
In his mind while in great and unexplainable agony, he could see resurrection coming.
“At this moment I am in anguish carrying the sins of the whole world upon me but resurrection is coming! “
That joy he had in him wasn’t the joy of the problem or the agony of the cross ending ,it was not the joy of release or the joy of it being over, Jesus didn’t endure the cross because of the relief of it stopping, there was more than the end of the endurance, he could see the outpouring of the spirit upon all flesh in the latter days ;he could see many sons coming to glory, he could see the reconciliation of all things, he could see the travail of his souls, he was giving birth to something ( the church ) and he could see it while on that cross!.
